Exfoliation FormWed Jul 19 2022
As an exercise in discursive design, my Studio I course taught by Cas Holman and Charlotte McCurdy asked the class to create an object for a world that doesnt have one specific thing. I chose that thing to be body soap. In this world humans embrace the natural biomes of their skin and allow themselves to produce a super skin that needs to be exfoliated regularly. In this world, there would be such regular need for exfoliation that there would have to be some form of public use scratching pole so that was what I designed, essentially a giant pummice stone that would age like a cast iron pan. All one needs to do to use it is pour some water on it then engage each part of the body in need of exfoliation. Intended as a public or private but vital activity like showering.
